"This Old Man can't sing or play guitar
worth a hoot. But he does come up with
some pretty good songs."
Is It Safe to Say I Love You? 2:28
Last night I got to thinkin', been thinkin' it for a while - 'bout you and I together and your outrageous smile, that sets my mind to wonderin' and chills me to the bone ...

This Old Man started writing songs in 1967 when he was a DJ. He then took a long break and returned to songwriting in 2022 after a career writing for business and for Public Television, which earned him FIVE Emmy awards. Along the way, he taught himself to be a mediocre guitar player -- and now also has taught himself to be a mediocre singer. He's a better guitar player than a singer, but plenty of people who can't sing do it anyway. Plus, some guy recently told him he sounded a lot like Johnny Cash! Ya think? |

This website is bold enough to present some of This Old Man's music. The first song he wrote didn't amount to spit, but he still has hope for his newer work -- including songs and story songs, which are part narration, part singing. This Old Man's latest work will be presented here from time to time (in his usual unpolished style). He hopes you enjoy them so much that you will check back every now and then to see what he comes up with next. |

This Old Man Projects in Development:
All in-progress work as shown Copyright 2023 by Brian E. Faulkner. All rights reserved.
Bad Boy Bill: Ain't nothin' he could do or nothin' he could say to make even one of them girls go away.
Ease Me Into Heaven, Lord: Lord, my life is filled with trials that lay heavily on me, and I don't know what I should do in this captivity ...
Good Enough For Me: I was sittin' on my porch one fine summer's day when my mama she came by - I thought to just say "Hi!" ... and maybe bring me some chocolate chip cookies. But she pulled up a chair and started into talkin'.
If This World Was Without Women: I'm gonna tell you a very sad story, I'm going to tell you a very sad tale -- about the world and the women within it, but I don't know how the story will end.
Just Down the Lane From Me: There were apple blossoms sprinkled in the trees that day, out on our family's farm. Birds sang in the lane that ran below the house, and fragrance burst forth everywhere ...
Make All Things Right: Had an old dog one time wouldn't hardly get up -- and loved nothing better than to nap under Pop's old shade tree, where the two of them would swap stories in their minds, consider their accomplishments and talk about trials and forgiveness before falling off to sleep.
Mama Dance: The wedding was all but over, most everyone had gone home. The dance floor was quiet, the lights down low, when a voice drifted from the shadows.
Movie Star: I want to be a movie star, drink fine wine, eat caviar. I want to be a movie star and live inside your heart.
Old Strings: Old strings make gui-tars fairly sing, like old friends and memories that whisper of many things, 'cause there's nothing in the world sounds half as sweet as old strings.
Safely Into Harbor: At the end of a six month sailing trip, the long boat was on its way. We were safely into harbor but there was no-one on the quay -- we were early by a day.
Someday We're Gonna Live in Heaven: Got up this morning and the sun was still down low, this day's promise in the wind -- while our world was sayin' "Why not stay in bed?"
Susie's Singing Tonight: The calls came wingin', the phone almost singin' -- sayin' "Guess who's gonna be on tonight at the County Road Cafe?"
Swing for the Fences: So swing for the fences, run the bases one by one, keep swinging for the fences until your days are done.
